Liam Parry Apprenticeship blog

Hello, I’m Liam
I am an Accounts Apprentice currently studying my Level 4 AAT at Yeovil College. I started with Old Mill in September 2022 joining the Outsourcing team within Brook, working in the Ilminster Office, at which point I started studying my AAT Level 3. Some of my day-to-day tasks involve client bookkeeping, client email management, preparing monthly management accounts, preparing payment runs for our clients so we can accurately advise them on what they need to pay, importing data into accounting systems, providing requested reports to clients, and draft schedules for year-end compliance.
Through my apprenticeship, I now have more of an understanding of how I learn and what revision techniques work best for me, and I have also seen a growth in my confidence through the work that I do. Personally, for me, by being able to work alongside my studying, it has helped me to better understand the course material as I can see it in real life situations, and it also helps me better understand my role and the processes going on in the background of the software that we use.
It can be difficult balancing work, study and home life, but I know that if there is too much pressure in some areas, there are people within the company and the college I can speak to, to help reduce some of the stress.
My goals for the future once I have completed my Level 4 AAT are to move onto an ACCA Apprenticeship, and to aim to become fully qualified, and as I progress through this, I want to work on bigger projects within my role, with a higher level of responsibility to help grow my confidence even further.
Some advice I would give to future apprentices, is to not think you can run before you can walk, take the time to ensure your work is correct before rushing to start the next part, trust that the processes and plans are there for a reason, have pride in the work that you do, try not to see criticism as a negative, but as a way to further your understanding and an opportunity to learn, and if you are ever unsure, to ask for help.
